Manage Domain Names

Video: Manage Domain Names Overview (1:52)

This is where you’ll add the websites you want to track and where you'll get the tracking script you need to place on each of the pages of your website that you'd like tracked. OfficeAutopilot users will manage their deeper page tracking and link tracking from this screen.

Adding Tracking Scripts to Your Web Pages

You’ll want to add a few lines of SendPepper code to each page on your website so the system can track visitors as they come and go. More specifically, our tracking script allows you to see within the contact log, what page a user landed on, what pages they’ve browsed and for how long…giving you a clear picture of what each user is interested in so you can tailor your communication with every individual accordingly.

Want to get super 007? This feature allows you to see when someone’s on your site in real time using our iPhone app and our Google Gadget, so you can email or call them instantly to close the deal or further discuss their needs.

Installing the Tracking Scripts to Your Web Pages

  1. Click the Admin link in the upper right of the screen.

  2. Scroll down and click the Manage Domain Names link.

  3. You’ll see a bar that says ‘Tracked Domains’. On the very right of that bar, there’s a link that says '+ Add Tracked Domain.' Click on it.

  4. Type in the URL of your main website. (That is, www.yoursite.com.) Note that you can track as many sites as you like with your account.

  5. Click ‘Track this Domain.’

  6. You’ll be taken back to the 'Tracked Domains' page. Your site will now be shown in the list.

  7. To the right of your site will be a link that says ‘View Tracking Script.’  Click on it.

  8. Then you’ll want to copy the script EXACTLY as it is onto EVERY page of your website. You’ll need to get access to the HTML of your site for this step. Put the script RIGHT AFTER the first place you see <body> tag on each page. If you don’t know how to do this and you don’t have a web person who can take care of this for you let us know and we’ll handle it for you.

Deeper Tracking: Specific Pages and Links within Pages

If you're an OfficeAutopilot user, the 'Manage Domain Name' screen is also where you'll take your tracking another layer or two deeper and add the specific pages and links you want to track within your sites. You only need to use this deeper kind of page tracking and link tracking if you want to use page visits and link clicks

  1. ...as conditions for rules in sequences.
  2. ...to trigger Active Response rules.
  3. ....to trigger lead scoring.

This is because all pages are already automatically tracked and all page visits are recorded in the contact log as soon as you add the tracking script to them. This is a first step for all users of the system and should be completed either by you, or by us as a part of our "Quick Start" offering.

One great example of why and when you’d add the additional tracking do this would be if you want to follow up with people in a specific way, who, say, go to your pricing page, or your “Learn More” page a couple of different times, exhibiting an obvious, repeated interest in your product or service, but who still haven’t bought. You might track the link that goes to that page and create an Active Response rule that makes it so that if any contact clicks that link 2 or more times but isn’t tagged as a customer already, that they automatically get subscribed to a “Warmer Prospect, Go Get 'em" type sequence. This communicates specifically to them as someone who’s definitely interested, but who just may need to gain a bit more knowledge about certain elements of your product or have their fears diminished with a few educational follow up emails. Of course there are other reasons why you’d want to track pages and links, not the least of which is to enable your lead scoring system to assign points to them for those link clicks.

Setting Up Page Tracking

  1. Click the "Admin" link in the upper right of the screen.

  2. Click the “Manage Domain Names” link.

  3. Click the “Pages Tracked (x)” underneath the column header called “Page Tracking” for that given domain name. This will take you to the “Page Tracking” pane.

  4. From there you will click the “+Add Page” link in the right-hand part of the reddish bar.

  5. Next, you’ll be taken to the “Adding Page” pane where you will enter:

    1. Page Alias: This is just plain English for whatever you’re calling the page, like maybe “Pricing Page”, or “About Us” page.

    2. Website URL: for instance: yoursite.com/pricingpage.php

Setting up Link Tracking

Once you’ve got individual pages tracked within your site, you can go even further and track individual links within those pages. Again, only necessary if you’re triggering rules off of these link clicks.

  1. Click the "Admin" link in the upper right of the screen.

  2. Click the “Manage Domain Names” link.

  3. Click “Pages Tracked (x)” underneath the column header called “Page Tracking” for that given domain name that contains the pages, and links you’d like to track. This will take you to the “Page Tracking” pane.

  4. Now, since you’ve already added the tracked pages in the previous step, you will click where it says “0 Links” underneath the “Links Tracked” column heading for the page that contains the links you want to track.

  5. This will take you to a new screen, the bottom pane of which will show you the actual page that contains the links you’d like to track. Simply click on the links you’d like to track.

  6. When you click the links, in the pane above, there you will decide what you want to call that link (its Track Alias). Enter that.

  7. Click the Pencil Icon.

  8. Replace existing link for that page and replace it with the provided “Direct Link” that appears after you click the pencil.

FAQs

Some questions we've heard...

"I thought I already set up tracking for my pages when I added scripts to each page of my site? Why do I need the Tracking tab?"

"I have a secure (https) site. Is there a secure version of the tracking script?"
